As one of the world’s oldest civilizations, China has the world’s longest continuously used written language system as well as a rich and profound culture. The Chinese Program provides students an exposure to Chinese language, literature, film, and culture. The Chinese language courses equip students with competitive language and cultural knowledge shared by one-fourth of the world’s population. Film, literature, and culture (in English translation) courses invite students to adopt an intercultural perspective to explore, experience, and enjoy distinctive, vibrant literary and filmic expressions, and to critically understand the past, present, and future of this fast-growing country on different levels.
It is tremendously rewarding to study China, its language and culture in today’s globalization where China is becoming increasingly significant in economics, trade, market, politics, science, and arts. The substantial language training and extensive cultural knowledge prepare those who are determined to enter China-related careers. This knowledge is applicable in such fields as business, finance, public service, government, higher education, international relations, and liberal arts. A variety of Chinese activities and events will be hosted throughout the year to enrich students’ learning experiences and to contribute to the diversity of the university community.
