Ingrid Robyn, an assistant professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Institute for Ethnic Studies, has published her first book, Márgenes del reverso. Her research interests include Cuban and other Caribbean literature and culture and the Latin American Avant-Garde.
In her synopsis of the book, Robyn writes, “Márgenes del reverso analyzes the dialogues between the works of Cuban writer José Lezama Lima (1910-1976) and avant-garde movements from both sides of the Atlantic. In doing so, the book not only uncovers networks of cultural exchanges between Europe and the Caribbean, but also between different Caribbean islands during the first half of the 20th century.
“As the first monographic work dedicated to the relationships between the Cuban writer and the historical avant-garde, this book is an important contribution not only to the study of José Lezama Lima's works, but also to the study of the Latin American avant-garde and its complex, non mimetic relationships to their European counterparts.”
