Hundreds of students from across the state of Nebraska will participate in a variety of events at the 45th annual Language Fair on April 4 at the Nebraska Union, 1400 R St.

Hosted by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the event allows students to showcase their Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese language skills through competitions including drama, musical performances, poetry, dance, poster presentations, and short film entries.

Non-competitive opportunities include Spanish-Latin dancing lessons and mini language and culture sessions in twelve languages and topics.

Inspired by the upcoming CAS Inquire colloquium series, this year’s theme is "War, Peace, and Reconciliation."

A community room will allow participants to discover ways in which understanding languages and cultures are critical assets in Nebraska and introduce them to potential careers that use those skills. Partners from the university and the Lincoln community include Center for People in Need, El Centro de las Americas, Lincoln Literacy, Catholic Social Services, the Center for Legal Immigration Assistance, Nebraska Appleseed, the Asian Community and Cultural Center, and the Nebraska Department of Education.

Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. and will include musical performances as part of a collaboration with Glenn Korff School of Music. The day wraps up with a 1:30 p.m. awards ceremony.
