Professors Ingrid Robyn and Luis Rodriguez; graduate students Carolina Julio, Laura García and Olatz Sánchez; and alumni Gabriella Parsons and Jordan Dudley have assisted with flood relief efforts in Fremont, Nebraska for several weekends.

They also continued a media project to make the struggle of this Hispanic community of over 1,500 people more visible.

"We distributed supplies, cleaned houses, played with children, filled out questionnaires of needs, recorded stories from the community, [and] conducted a 20-minute interview with the leader of 'Hispanic Fremont Strong'," Rodriguez said. "Our linguistic proficiency was our most important contribution since most people there do not speak English and a good number of them are pan-Maya, and Spanish is only a second language for them."
