John S. Lohr's career was propelled in three ways with Deutsch in Deutschland (DiD), UNL's study abroad experience in Berlin, Germany. It allowed him to learn an international language, provided perspective on European life and business, and taught him important lessons about German culture.

"It also gave me the opportunity to experience one of the most important capitals of Europe, to learn the political and economic language of Europe and to understand and apply the German way of life to an international career," John said.

John, now 32 years old, has lived in 6 countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Thailand and India and currently speaks four languages. He has also done business in over 50 countries and held many positions such as Guest Relations Manager, Global Communication Consultant and International Marketing and Relationships Manager while adapting to many different management styles.

DiD also had a significant impact on John's personal life. He met his wife during his study abroad program in Berlin. She is Polish and their two children each have dual citizenship and speak two languages already.

John is currently employed at Hosco, a Swiss startup launched in May 2011, which has now become the largest hospitality platform in the world, bringing together the best talent and top employers from the hospitality industry. As Director of Development, John is able to travel across all of Europe, as well as the rest of the world promoting a company he sincerely believes in.

"I am also recruiting US students to do study abroad programs in Europe just as I did, in hopes they can gain the same experience and expand their horizons," said John.

"Without a shred of doubt in my mind I can say none of this would have been possible without the life skills I learned in Berlin during that magical study abroad time with UNL. So if you are still questioning if you should go abroad, stop questioning, get off your butt and do it! You will unlock countless international opportunities through a study abroad experience and it will propel your life in directions you never thought possible."
